Maurie McGuire's Montecito Real Estate Update - February 11th, 2011
Monthly Hike at UCSB Sedgwick Reserve, This Saturday February 12th
The beautiful and rugged Santa Ynez Valley is the setting for a series of monthly interpretive hikes and nature activities open to the public each fall and spring on the 6,000-acre UCSB Sedgwick Reserve. Hikes are run on the second Saturday of the month between October and May.
The next hikes in the 2011 series will be held on Saturday, February 12 at 8:30am. Three hikes with varying themes such as geology, landforms, Sedgwick panoramas, plants and animals or birds, and approximately two to three hours each are conducted simultaneously, followed by the opportunity to picnic with your own lunch at the Reserve. In addition to the hikes, other activities such as a tour of the newly-renovated old barn, the new observatory, the pond, and the new Tipton House, as well as a set up for painters at the pond, and the use of a bocce ball court are all planned for those who don't want to hike and would like to just enjoy the Reserve attractions while the hikes are being conducted. Sedgwick operates on a very limited University budget; therefore a donation of $10 per hiker or $15 per couple or family is suggested for the hikes. Donations can be made on the day of the hike, and reservations are required. Also, be advised that if there is inclement weather, the hikes will be cancelled and a message will be placed on the Sedgwick answering machine. For further information and reservations, contact sedgwick@lifesci.ucsb.edu . or 805-686-1941, Ex 6.
Santa Barbara & Montecito Real Estate Update
I recently attended the regional Market update with Leslie Appleton Young, the Chief Economist, CA Association of Realtors. Her assessment included:
- Though not overly rosy, the worst seems to be behind us.
- Our Bottom was in 2009.
- Consumer spending is recovering.
- Santa Barbara County did indeed fare better than the state as a whole.
- The Employment stats are stronger than many areas of California.
- Not a major upswing, but return to more stable real estate market.
- (Cautiously) Optimistic outlook for Santa Barbara County.
- The recovery has been regional and Santa Barbara has fared better than most locations (markets) state-wide and nationally.
